Abstract:The article uses routine observation data from 1951 to 2022 and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data to conduct statistical and subtyping research on the backflow blizzard processes at 25 national stations in southeastern Inner Mongolia. The results showed that there were a total of 175 cases of blizzards during the 72 year period, with 41 cases of blizzards returning.Using the 850 hPa circulation characteristics, the backflow blizzards are divided into three types:convergence zone, highpressure bottom, and low vortex. The common feature is that the warm and humid airflow in front of the 700(or 500) hPa trough(vortex) is stacked on top of the "cold pad" formed by the northeast wind backflow below the 850(or 700) hPa layer, and when combined with the lowlevel strong front area, the blizzard area undergoes a "cold pad".The study and analysis of the physical field shows that the dynamic, water vapor, and warm and humid instability conditions of the low vortex type are very favorable for the occurrence of blizzards, followed by the high pressure bottom type, and the convergence zone type is the weakest. The research results are consistent with the statistical characteristics of the actual situation, and the 850 hPa circulation feature classification is consistent with the structural characteristics of the backflow blizzard in southeastern Inner Mongolia.
