Abstract:In this paper, the seasonal characteristics of sea surface wind speed in the North Pacific Ocean were analyzed by using the QN mixed wind data. Results show that, (1) Large area of wind speed locates in Aleutian waters, of above 8m/s. Wind speed within the first island chain is less than 6m/s. And the southeast water of the Indochina Peninsula is large center in summer, of above 7m/s. In spring, wind speed in the ??Japan Sea, Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea is about 7m/s, the Taiwan Strait up to 9m / s or more. In winter, wind speed in most areas is about 8-10m/s. (2) View from annual average wind speed, the large center distributes in the vicinity of the Aleutian Islands, more than 8m/s, bellowed the Taiwan Strait and the Luzon Strait, of above 8.5m/s, the Taiwan Strait can even up to 9m/s or more, then the southeast water of the Indochina Peninsula is also more than 7.5m/s. (3) Distribution Characteristics of the gale frequency is similar to that of annual average wind speed, large value of the Chinese offshore area is mainly distributed in the Taiwan Strait, the Luzon Strait near the Ryukyu Islands, the South China Sea area of strong winds.
