Application of atmospheric electric field characteristics in thunderstorm warning over Karamay City

Abstract:Based on the monitoring data from atmospheric electric field device,lightning location system and conventional meteorological observation in Karamay area,this paper analyzed the characteristics of electric field of fair-weather and thunderstorm weather days of Karamay City in 2013.The results show that the diurnal variation in the atmosphere electric field in 44 fair-weather days indicated double peak and double vally.The peak occurred at 9 and 18 oclock and the vally occurred at 14 and 00 oclock.And the geometric mean value of the electric field peak values is 0.18—0.30 kV/m.The local lightning warning threshold values for the three levels were set up.The thunderstorm weather event automatically monitored and forecasted by electric field device is nearly consistent with the monitoring data of lightning position indicator.The evolution of ground atmosphere electric field can better reflect the ground flash activity
