Abstract:The Yanqing alpine skiing area has a high altitude and a special local climate. The meteorological support team uses a cup wind sensor and ultrasonic wind meter for joint observation. After studying the measurement data before and after the race,it is concluded that the difference between the two kind of data is mainly caused by the slope of the track, turbulence and the influence of ground objects. The freezing of the wind sensor is caused by the combined action of super cooled water, air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed. The heating function of the ultrasonic anemometer effectively guarantees the continuity and accuracy of the wind measurement data during the event. The application proves that the combined use of the two sensors can meet the requirements of refined forecasting services for the Winter Olympics.
