Abstract  In order to better predict the heavy rainstorm and short-time heavy precipitation in Leping, this paper analyzes the echo of the 2023-03-22 heavy rainstorm process and short-time heavy precipitation by using MICAPS weather map, rainfall of Leping Automatic Weather Station, radar echo and other data, using synoptic, radar meteorology and other principles and image recognition technology. The results show that the convective characteristics of heavy rainstorm are obvious, accompanied by strong convective weather such as heavy precipitation and lightning. On the sounding map, there is a typical "horn mouth" structure, the trough moves eastward, cold air intersects with southwest airflow, upper level divergence, and ground convergence, leading to heavy precipitation.Heavy precipitation is accompanied by significant strong lightning, and the lightning density in Leping, where precipitation intensity is highest, is also the strongest. At the beginning of heavy precipitation, strong lightning generally occurs before heavy precipitation, while during or near the end of the heavy precipitation process, strong lightning lags behind heavy precipitation. The areas south of the TBB strong center with dense contour lines have the strongest convection and are most likely to induce heavy precipitation. When a large area of strong echoes above 45 dBZ appears upstream of the measuring station and moves towards the measuring station, the area of the strong echoes reaches ≥300 km2, which will lead to heavy precipitation ≥30 mm/h.Early warning information should be issued. It is hoped that the research results can play a guiding role in monitoring, warning and forecasting services of Leping heavy rainstorm and short-term heavy rainfall.
