Abstract The characteristics of thunderstorm changes and favorable convective factors for thunderstorm development in Aksu region were analyzed using routine data and sounding data from 1987 to 2013.The results show that the average annual number of thunderstorm days in Aksu region is 284 days,and the spatial distribution gradually decreases from the northern mountainous areas to the central hilly and plain areas.The favorable convective elements for thunderstorm development in Aksu region exhibit different characteristics in different regions and time periods.
