Abstract The diameter of wave buoy is generally less than 1m.Such buoys have been used for more than 20 years in China ocean monitoring stations.The buoy is too small to break easily by passing vessels in the sea. It also requires sea maintenance frequently because of small battery capacity. In order to resolve the buoy offshore safety issue and the long-term power supply as soon as possible, a new 3m multi-parameter wave buoy system is developed. The system is mainly to solve two problems. First, the security of the buoy in the sea is improved by increasing the volume of the buoy. Second, the number of maintenance by the user is reduced and long-term power supply of the buoy is resolved. The key technology is how to meet the requirements of measuring wave when the volume of buoy increased, and how to realize simultaneous observation for hydrological and meteorological parameters under the condition of not affecting the property of buoy along with wave.
