Abstract The severe convective weather automatic identification system of Doppler weather radar is designed based on the SCIT algorithm of WSR-88D and convective weather characteristics.The system is tested using observation data of the hail process happened in Wenzhou and Taishun on April 7th,2008.The results show that the system can classify the severe weather phenomena reasonably.Both the system and METSTAR software almost have the same effect in convective weather application.Moreover,the former is more flexibility and scalability.At present,the application of the system has been widely used that played a good role in the strong convective weather warning.
