Abstract This paper introduces the structure and working principle of forward scatter visibility instrument that widely used in meteorological observation business at present. Since official operating of visibility instruments of 30 national automatic weather stations, the appearing anomalies are analyzed and summarized. The solutions for various faults are put forward. Combined with practical work, the daily maintenance methods for the visibility instrument are given out, which have a certain reference value for station personnel to do a good job on visibility maintenance.
