Abstract In order to meet requirements of total cloud amount automatic observation,an automatic cloud identification system for national weather station is designed and researched.The system implements the function of total cloud amount automatic identification in Ningxia by utilizing satellite cloud products.The corrected total cloud amount products based on national weather stations can be automatically generated by the system,as well as real-time display through graphical interface.The system has been put into daily application,which runs steadily,and the test results are in good agreement with manual observation total cloud amount.
