Abstract By using the maintenance and improvement data records of 409 automatic weather stations in Longnan meteorological bureau of Gansu province for two years,this paper analyzes the reasons of operation failure of the tipping bucket precipitation sensor,and innovatively puts forward the improvement method of it.The total failure rate of the improved precipitation sensor is reduced.The improved method will greatly improve the quality of precipitation observation data of automatic weather station,and also provide an important reference for the improvement of tipping bucket precipitation sensor.
