Abstract  In order to do a better job in monitoring and early warning of large rainstorm in Yuanhe river basin of Jiangxi, this paper makes statistics of the large rainstorm processes of Yuanhe river basin of Jiangxi for the period from the year of 2013 to 2022 as well as the characteristics of short-term heavy precipitation. It also makes an analysis of the synoptic situation field and radar echo characteristics. It is concluded that the short-term heavy precipitation during large rainstorm will occur every year in Yuanhe river basin and certain similarity exists in aspect of synoptic situation. The flocculent echo is dominated in echo pattern. The result of research provides basis for the understanding, monitoring and early warning of short-term heavy rainfall during exceptionally large rainstorm in Yuanhe river basin.
