Abstract  Aircraft, as a mean of upper-air meteorological observing, is an important way to enhance the spatial and temporal resolution of upper air meteorological data. According to the upper air temperature observation data from Y-12 weather modification airplane, the methods of determining the status of the flight by using the altitude, ground speed and three dimensional position are proposed. And an analysis method based on temporal correlation has been presented to analyze the airborne temperature observation. The results show that the two horizontal temperature profiles and one vertical temperature profile in a certain height that obtained by flight testing based on airborne temperature observation have a good consistency.
