Abstract  Based on the two severe convective weather processes observed by an X-band dual linear polarization radar which is installed in the Liaocheng meteorological bureau (724XSP),compared with the same rainfall system observed by S-band Doppler radar which is installed in Jinan (CINRAD/SA),the differential phase shift (φDP) is used to correct reflectivity factors, and the effects of attenuation correction are verified. The results show that through the comparison observations over convective clouds, the detecting ability of 724XSP is poor when echo intensity exceeded 45 dBZ,the structure difference of convection cloud between 724XSP and SA Radar is great. The reflectivity of 724XSP has a high consistency with the reflectivity of SA Radar after correction, which shows that attenuation correction by differential phase shift is an effective method.
