| Analysis of ground flash variation characteristics of two hail processes in Meizhou in 2023 |

Abstract Using Guangdong lightning location data,Meizhou weather radar data,and Dongyuan sounding data,the hail weather process in Meizhou from March 23 to 24,2023 was analyzed,with a focus on analyzing the changing characteristics of lightning activity during the hail weather process.Analysis shows that the frequency of ground flashes increases sharply before hailstorms,with the peak occurring about 30 minutes earlier than ground hailstorm.During hailstorms,there are no obvious positive flashes,and negative flashes dominate.After hail,ground flash activity tends to weaken until it disappears.The dense area of ground flashes overlaps highly with the strong echo area,while the rest of the ground flashes are located in the direction of the strong echo area.The active period of ground flash is usually accompanied by obvious unstable stratification,with a temperature dew point difference below 700 hPa of less than 5 ℃,and a vertical distribution of humidity showing a "dry top and wet bottom" pattern.The stronger the vertical wind shear contrast between the upper and lower layers of the troposphere,the more obvious the lightning activity,and the more severe the hail weather process;The echo center of a strong thunderstorm is mainly composed of three polar charge structures,while behind the thunderstorm is a dipole charge structure.
