Abstract The South China Sea (SCS) is affected by monsoon significantly.By means of sea surface wind (NECP) data,it found that the sea surface wind stress curl has significant seasonal variation and behaves obvious west-east phase shift from winterto summer,especially in central region of SCS.Based on EOF (Empirical Orthogonal Function),there exists three space modes that stand for latitude difference,SCS basin scale variability and meridional difference respectively,and each modebehaves inter-annual variation.
