Analysis of radar echo characteristics during five hail events in Xinyu |

Abstract Summarizing radar echo characteristics is an effective means to monitor and warn hail weather.Based on the conventional MICAPS weather map,ground meteorological elements,Jiangxi WebGIS radar puzzle CR products and single radar PUP products,this paper analyzes five hail weather processes in Xinyu from 2012 to 2020 by means of statistics and radar echo comparison.The results show that:1)the hail in Xinyu mainly occurs from March to July,and the occurrence time is mostly from afternoon to evening.The main weather types of hail are low trough type and subtropical high edge type.2)The Xinyu hail is mostly produced by super monomer,strong monomer on echo band or super monomer on echo band.The echo center intensity CR of super monomer and super monomer on echo band is more than 60 dBZ.The echo top height is 12~14 km,and the VIL is 60 kg·m2.It can be seen from the radial velocity diagram that there are obvious positive and negative velocity pairs with the characteristics of mesocyclone.3)The CR intensity of strong monomer echo is about 5~10 dBZ weaker than that of super monomer echo,and the diameter of hail is also small.The above research results provide a reference basis for the monitoring and early warning of hail in Xinyu.
