Abstract This paper mainly studies the detection principle of laser raindrop spectrometer,the raindrop spectrum formation mechanism and rainfall phenomenon recognition and judgment methods.Through the statistical comparison and analysis of precipitation type data identified and judged by raindrop spectrometers at 70 meteorological stations in Jiangsu Province in 2018 and manual observation data,the data availability was evaluated from the aspects of accuracy (capture rate,missed report rate,false report rate,false report rate and absolute error of start and end time) and consistency (the difference of starting and ending time,15 min or less,above 15 min).
