Abstract:This paper describes the principle and method of conventional-sounding and ground-based GPS remote sensing for measuring precipitable water in the atmosphere.According to comparison and analysis of four different observation stations fromAugust to November in 2011,it suggests that the results from two different measurement have the consistency and two types of data can be used though the network.Ground-based GPS can make up disadvantages of conventional-sounding on the time and spatial distribution, while conventional-sounding can calibrate the dataof ground-based GPS remote sensing.Combined continuous increasing and rapid changing of precipitable water from ground-based GPSwith conventional-sounding data,a reliable reference for the possibility of heavy precipitation is provided.
