Abstract In 2016,the China Meteorological Administration issued the new criterion of surface meteorological observation with several of adjustments for the observation of light fog and haze.Combined with the new criterion and forward scattering visibility meter,the observation methods of light fog and haze under the new regulations are systematically arranged.How to determine the horizontal effective visibility based on the new instrument is introduced.Meanwhile,the observation of light fog and haze and the recording methods of haze in day files according to the new criterion are elaborated.
