Abstract:Currently, there are mainly two methods to detect atmospheric aerosol optical depth, namely satellite remote sensing and ground-based detection,of which detecting the aerosol optical depth via ground-based sun photometers is the most accurate among aerosol remote sensing methods, and it is often utilized to verify the results of satellite remote sensing aerosol optical depth. We usually select MODIS aerosol products to study the satellite remote sensing aerosol optical depth. MODIS aerosol retrieval algorithm is set up by NASA based on a certain aerosol model. However,it needs to be further studied whether this kind of model is accurate in the aerosol retrieval in China. In consideration of the study area,we select Taiwan province, where it has the most intensive AERONET sites (Aerosol Robotic Network) in China,to conduct the study, and utilize the aerosol optical depth detected by the ground-based sun photometers and the optical depth of the MODIS aerosol products in the four AERONET sites in Taiwan for comparison and verification. The study is conducted mainly by contrastive analysis of the distribution rules of aerosol optical depth detected by MODIS and the photometers respectively and by analyzing linear regression of the results in terms of the aerosol optical depth detected by MODIS and the photometers respectively. This study aims at providing reference for the research related to aerosol by analyzing and understanding the differences between the two detecting methods.
