Abstract:In order to better monitor and warn of hail weather in Nanchang City, the lightning characteristics of a hail weather process in Nanchang City from April 13, 2024 were analyzed by using radar echoes and lightning data from the Tianyan Comprehensive Meteorological Observation Quality Control and Product Business System. The results show that the 1 h and 3 h thunderstorm density zones can effectively monitor the distribution of supercell thunderstorms, while the 6 h and 12 h thunderstorm density zones can reflect the temporal distribution of supercell movement paths. When thunderstorm clustering overlaps with the high value range of thunderstorm density, strong weather is most likely to occur.During the development and peak periods of supercells, there are dense thunderstorms and constantly during movement. The characteristics that determine the occurrence of hail in a supercell include a combined reflectivity of echo≥60 dBZ(with echo core), the vertically accumulated liquid water content ≥60 kg/m2, accompanied by 10 minutes of dense lightning, thunderstorm clustering, and overlapping thunderstorm density. It is hoped that research results can provide an analytical basis for the early warning and prediction of supercell hail events in Nanchang City.
